Choosing a doula is a very personal and sometimes difficult process. Particularly in Olympia where it seems that everyone is a doula. So, how do you know who to trust? Just as in birth, it is best to trust your instincts. We were lucky enough to find Nicole Heye as our doula. We chose to have our second child at home in September. We found Nicole through a friend and couldn’t have been happier with our choice. At our first visit with Nicole, she put us right at ease. She stayed in touch with us all the way up to the day I went into labor. She checked in to answer our questions and to help us with the birth planning process. By the time I went into labor, she had gotten to know us so well that she didn’t even have to ask what we needed. She helped to make the entire birth a true joy. Nicole had told me that every birth was different and her role in every birth was different. It was so wonderful to have someone that understood that one size does not fit all. We were so happy with our choice to use Nicole Heye as our birth doula. We couldn’t have imagined anyone better.

Nicole Heye was a perfect fit for our doula. We knew she would be a great presence at the birth of our first child from the very beginning. We had a home birth and Nicole was extremely knowledgeable and willing to provide us with lots of helpful information. Nicole met with us several times prior to the birth and was so patient and kind to spend quality time getting to know us and our hopes and goals for a special birth experience. Nicole was always available to us when we needed her, she provided great support. When I went into labor Nicole was there from the beginning. She helped me focus every step of the way. She was so gentle and caring to us. We had an exceptional birth experience. Our daughter came into the world after twelve hours of labor and all stages went smoothly. We were so happy to have such a wonderful person by our side.

During labor at the hospital, my husband said “Hiring Nicole was the best investment we’ve ever made.” We both still firmly believe that our birth would have been less successful if she had not been with us. She was amazingly supportive, positive, and intuitive. I felt less fearful and more positive with her reassurance and gentle touch, through gestational diabetes diagnoses, my water breaking 5.5 weeks before my due date, a bumpy ambulance ride, days of labor, our successful VBAC, and afterward visiting my newborn in the ICU and massaging my ankles that were as big around as grapefruits. Her ability to sense what is needed is incredible and her nurturing and fun personality make her uniquely suited for this work. We love Nicole!
